Pulling TogetherBravo to the writers, editors, photographers, layout artists, designers, supporters, sponsors and distributors of the Riverwest Currents. What a great way to start the new year. Your paper was so rich with information that I still haven’t put it down. I hope that your team has had the chance to meet and congratulate yourselves. For quite sometime I have referred to myself as a “Harambee/Riverwester”. Having raised a family on Palmer St., I always wanted to serve notice that our family was intrinsically linked to two very progressive and diverse areas. I liked Mayor Zeidler’s definition of neighborhood. I enjoyed the discussion of boundaries; who is a Riverwester and who is a wannabee? [See "Where is Riverwest?" -Ed.] I think the critical question for us all is that we are united, from the expressway to Holton St., from the river to the lakefront (Harambee means ‘let’s pull together’). Our community is rich with organizations and individuals that have tried to have a positive impact on our city. I hope you continue to dig deep and keep providing information that inspires us all in the spirit of Sherman Booth, Joshua Glover, Charles Whitnall, Lloyd Barbee, Aurora Weir and my mother, Beverly Verdin. Sincerely, Brian Verdin (Harambee/Riverwester) Riverwest Currents - Volume 2 - Issue 2 - February 2003 Riverwest Currents online edition - February, 2003
