Remembering Lloyd Barbee

FROM: Jim Godsil
================

"People who knew Lloyd Barbee well have spoken of the extraordinary range of his interests and the many contributions he made to Milwaukee. But he was known chiefly, and was justly honored, for the essential role he played during the 1960s in the struggle to end the racial segregation of the public school system here. Barbee, the attorney, former state legislator and civil rights activist, died here early Sunday, December 29 at the age of 77 after a long illness." (jsonline.com)

Many Milwaukeeans are signing on to an organizing commmittee to celebrate Lloyd Barbee's life (names available on request).

Many would like to get a street and school named after Lloyd Barbee.

Many would like to raise money to finance a biography of Lloyd Barbee. Also looking for perfect person to write the biography. Or make children's book from biography. Or film documentary. A play? Why not?

Many would like to meet as needed at the Bean Head Cafe, on MLK and Carla Allison's Readers Choice Bookstore, just north of Dr. King's statue, and Karen Spencer's Deja Vu consignments.

Please call me at 406-2237 if you are interested in fostering a public awareness of Lloyd Barbee and the principles he stood for.

Clear sailing,
Godsil
