Brophy Knew What He Was Getting Into

I read some of the letters in the June 2004 issue regarding “Brophy’s Boondoggles” and felt compelled to make some comments. As Mr. Brophy’s attorney stated, Mr. Brophy has been in the real estate development business for about 11 years and in 2002-2003 accelerated his acquisitions, purchasing between 50 and 60 various sized properties that came with approximately 300 code violations. He knew what he was buying!

Mr. Brophy is not responsive in any way to neighbors who do advise him of bad tenants and landlords. Also, stated in this letter, “landlords cannot be present on site 24/7...” is a point well made. Mr. Brophy hires the landlords and procures the tenants, so ultimately he is responsible for these individuals and their actions and for the necessary repairs of HIS properties. Isn’t his ONLY reason for purchasing this quantity of properties to make money on them?!
