Martin Luther King Elementary School
Celebrates Grandparents’ Day
Grandparents visited classrooms, had lunch and
took pictures with their grandchildren on Thursday,
September 27. The children serenaded those in
attendance with a very entertaining program. The
highlight of the visit was the school’s world class
computer lab, which has teleconference capabilities.
With the assistance of their lab teacher, students are
able to interact with students in other countries; they
recently talked with students in England.

HOPI Open House
Harambee Ombudsman Project, Inc. Proudly Host an
Open House for their latest new home construction
Board, staff and community residents toured the
completed home at 2572 N. Palmer Street, on Friday,
October 27 from 6-8pm. If you were not there; please
drive by and take a look at the new addition to the
Harambee neighborhood. Sherman Lawrence Hill is the
Executive Director of HOPI.
Faithe Colas, Ivory Abena Black and Patricia Diggs attended
a book signing held at America’s Black Holocaust Museum for
their newly published book,
Brownsville Milwaukee Lifestyle.
Hands Around First Street
Ms. El Loise Games, block captain of the 3300 block of N. First Street
organized a rally to draw attention to the crime and other negative activities
in the surrounding neighborhood. Several clubs have joined forces and
have been meeting monthly to work on solutions. In addition to neighbors,
representation from the Fifth District Police Station, Community Partners
and Harambee Ombudsman Project, Inc. and Alderman Michael McGee
were present to give input and support. The event was held on Saturday,
September 30.
