collaborations with his two guests, poet John Koethe and drummer Terry
Smirl. In the first half, Koethe will read a selection of his poems
with Nelson-Raney’s piano improvisations as a commentary and backdrop.
In the second half, Smirl will join Nelson-Raney in extended free jazz
conversations between drums and piano.

SCHNEEMANN 7pm Free Carolee Schneemann will give a keynote
presentation for the Center for 21st Century Studies' 40th anniversary
conference, Since 1968. She will discuss how the events of 1968
function as a starting point from which we can assess our current loss
of community and how sexuality is being confabulated as a political
diversion. She will also screen a few of her short films from the
1960s. Schneemann has been a pioneering multidisciplinary artist whose
work often looks at the body, sexuality and gender. Her painting,
photography, performance art and installation works have been shown at
museums throughout the United States and abroad.

codes and conventions of the horror film through the language of
structural materialist cinema. Shot on the set of Jesús Franco's Count
Dracula (1970), with a compelling soundtrack by Carles Santos, the film
alternates between being a horror film—with intertextual references
back to Carl Dreyer's Vampyr (1932)—and documenting Franco's filming.
This film evinces a distinct authorial style, shaped by Portabella's
use of high-contrast photography and his blending of documentary and
fiction.
