Glorioso’s, the Italian grocery store and East Side favorite for 64 years, is planning to expand and move to a different location.  Luckily for its loyal patrons, Glorioso’s won’t be leaving Brady Street. Its owners have purchased the building that formerly housed the Brady Street Pharmacy and the new store is projected to open in spring 2010.

“They’re guardians,” Marina Lee explains, referring

to the brightly-colored fiberglass sea monsters,

giraffes and creatures of mystery that inhabit her

back yard and so many Milwaukee playgrounds and

schoolyards. Kids need guardians to watch over them,

and Marina’s sculptures provide them.

Amidst a time of many protests and demonstrations — over the war, the evils of big business — sprang a little natural foods store on the
2400 block of North Murray Avenue — where Cory The Bike Fixer sits today — called Beans & Barley. Original owner, Mike Stevens,
opened his store in August 1973 with only about six barrels for bulk food and two coolers.Read more...

Shana McCaw & Brent Budsberg joint installation. • UWM’s Inova Gallery in the Kenilworth Building, 2155 N. Prospect Ave. An exhibition of work by the artists who received Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists in 2008. It brings together work by four artists selected in the Established Artist category: Xav Leplae, Shana McCaw & Brent Budsberg (a collaborative) and Iverson White; and five artists selected in the Emerging Artist category: Tate Bunker, Bobby Ciraldo & Andrew Swant (a collaborative), Frankie Latina and Barbara Miner.
